When it comes educating the travel and meeting community on travel and meeting risk avoidance and response techniques, Detective Kevin Coffey is one of the country’s leading experts in the field and is known to the media as the “Scholar of Thievery.”

His background is unique, as he was employed by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), where he retired at the rank of Detective Sergeant. During his 35- year career, he became an internationally recognized expert and training consultant in travel and meeting crime avoidance tactics, which led to him conducting thought-provoking crime awareness seminars for organizations and associations, domestically and internationally.

A pioneer in travel crime investigations, in 1991, he co-founded the LAPD's Los Angeles International Airport's Crimes Investigations Detail and has been passionate about exposing others in avoiding and preparing for travel mishaps while traveling abroad.

In his consulting business he’s educated over 10,000 business travelers of Fortune 500 organizations in his street-smart travel presentations.

A frequent speaker at GBTA, MPI, PCMA, and SITE events around the globe, where he specializes in training travel, meeting, CVB organizations on risk reduction, preparation, and response techniques.

Detective Coffey has been featured on numerous TV appearances, including Oprah, ABC’s 20/20, CNN, and the Travel Channel’s program “Travel Schemes and Rip Off’s Revealed, as well as being quoted in numerous travel and meeting trade publications.

He resides in Calabasas, California, a suburb of Los Angeles.
